Finding Calm in the Chaos: My Experience with Neurofeedback

I have recently completed my fourth year of my undergraduate degree in psychology—just one more year to go! My last semester was particularly stressful for me, and I was experiencing more anxiety than I typically do. So, I decided to do another round of Neurofeedback (NF) sessions. And let me just say, I am SO glad I did! If you are curious about our clinic and what our NF therapy is all about, let me share a few reasons why I LOVE getting NF done.

We have flexible appointment options

While NF is a time commitment, our scheduling is very flexible as we offer evening and Saturday appointments. As a student, I was often busy during the day. However, with flexibility here at Sanostate, it was easy to arrange appointments that fit the best in mylife, rather than needing to move my life around for appointments. I greatly appreciated this flexibility and took advantage of those evening appointments often!

We have an incredible team!

I love the entire team we have at Sanostate. Everyone here cares about you! I found my sessions a great time to have someone check in on me, how my sessions are going, how I’m feeling, and what improvements I’m noticing. I loved taking a minute or so before a session to connect with whichever technician was helping me. They are all so friendly and caring! This connection helped me feel more comfortable and supported, which made a huge difference in my overall experience.

The rooms are SO COZY!

Every one of our rooms has comfortable seating, dimmable lights, and blankets! I would start every session by putting my feet up and using a blanket. With dimmed lights and a quiet space, I felt comfortable enough to relax and put my mind at ease. Each room has a TV that can be set up with anything from Netflix or YouTube. I would commonly watch scenic videos of places I want to one day travel to… like Greece, Iceland, and Italy! Having this playing in the room also contributed to the cozy atmosphere all our rooms have. The ambiance of the room played a significant role in helping me unwind and fully relax during my sessions.

NF sessions are the perfect time to destress from the cares of the day

Life is stressful! A lot of different things take a lot of my time, so I really cherish the time I have to practice self-care. These sessions were the perfect avenue to do so! When I booked a session, I would set aside that time to be alone and decompress. I found myself doing so many fun things during these sessions! I love playing my Nintendo Switch, and my NF sessions were the perfect time to do so. Over my sessions, I would play Fae Farm (a super adorable fairy/farming game) and I loved doing it. If my week was crammed with volunteering, assignments, and studying, my NF sessions were always a great time to work on my virtual farm. I have seen many clients bring in their own Switches or phone games into their sessions, and I find them a great idea! Let us know what you're playing—we’re interested! And, let’s be real, I'm always looking for game recommendations. 😜

My NF sessions were also a fantastic time to nap—yes, you can even SLEEP during treatment! I think the coziness of our rooms really created the perfect atmosphere to catch up on some well-needed rest. I would dim the lights, put my feet up, and use the fireplace to warm the room up. NF naps are THE BEST. The ability to rest and recharge during a session was so valuable, especially during my particularly hectic weeks.

I noticed so many improvements!

With treatment, I found improvements in the many areas I was seeking help with.

●       Anxiety reduction: My anxiety has significantly reduced. I find myself ruminating less about the future. I am unbelievably happy I was able to improve in this area. With a reduction in my anxiety, I am more successful in completing tasks and going about my everyday life. Without these intense moments of anxiousness, I am able to move forward through my to-do list.

●       Enhanced focus: I found myself being able to better concentrate and focus. This was ESPECIALLY helpful as I was entering exam season. Studying felt much less burdensome than it typically was, which was awesome. I was able to absorb information more effectively and perform better in my academic endeavors. The clarity and mental sharpness I gained were incredibly beneficial.

●       Improved mood: My mood has improved significantly. I have found myself happier and just generally more well. I am better able to connect with others and enjoy my days. The boost in mood enhanced my interactions and relationships, making everyday experiences more pleasant and fulfilling.

Overall, my experience with NF has been awesome! It has provided me with a comfortable space to relax and take care of myself amidst a busy and stressful schedule. The improvements in my anxiety, focus, and mood have made a substantial difference in my daily life. If you are considering NF, I highly recommend giving it a try. The benefits I’ve experienced are beyond what I had hoped for!
