Sano State Spotlight: Dr. Claude Shema
"... every individual has the capacity for growth and transformation when given the right support." - Dr. Claude R. Shema
Recently joing us at the Sano State St. Albert clinic, we have the amazing clinician, Dr. Claude Shema. He will be offering Neurofeedback Therapy alongside our other practitioners, and he is also accepting new clients for counselling.
Welcome, Dr. Claude!
I have been very fortunate to work with Dr. Claude over the last few months, and thought I would share some information about him. This may be helpful for those of you looking to connect with a new counselling support, but it also gives us a fun way to show off our newest team member.
Dr. Claude’s educational background includes doctoral degree levels in General and Tropical Medicine, and Clinical Psychiatry (Cardiff University in Wales, UK), and he furthered his education in Clinical Psychology at Palo Alto University and California Southern University (California, USA), and post-graduate education in Brain Surgery (neurosurgery, University of Buckingham, UK). He also attended McGill University (QC, Canada) and Harvard University for Public Health Studies (Massachusetts, USA).
Dr. Claude is a Norwegian-Canadian, and he enjoys providing psychotherapy/counselling, and he has been a practitioner for over 25 years!
Dr. Claude is also trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Narrative Exposure Therapy, EMDR, and many other modalities and approaches.
With a background in psychiatry, clinical psychology, neurosurgery, and experience working in both medical and community-based settings, Dr. Claude brings a holistic and evidence-based approach to care. His work is informed by his experience with diverse populations, including Indigenous communities across Canada, and guided by the belief that every individual has the capacity for growth and transformation when given the right support.
In his free time, he enjoys working out, or practicing mixed martial arts (MMA), both as a hobby and as a trainer/coach. He enjoys skiing and other winter sports too, and he loves hiking in nature. But most importantly, he is a compassionate clinician who embraces the holistic approach (Biopsychosocial Model) in mental wellbeing. His patient's success in their journey is his ultimate goal.

He is a life long learner, with four doctoral degrees, few Masters degrees, but he is a firm believer of personnel centered care approach, because “people don’t care how much you know, but how much you care” for them.
